Com mais de 10 anos de carreira e diversas mudanças de formação, os finlandeses do Battlelore sempre proporcionaram um heavy metal variado, mesclando elementos do folk, power, symphonic e até death metal. Em "Doombound", sexto álbum de estúdio, não é diferente.
O álbum é conceitual e novamente as letras são inspiradas nos livros de J.R.R.
Tolkien, as músicas narram a história do herói Túrin Turambar. Apesar dos álbuns anteriores seguirem a mesma temática nenhum deles era conceitual. Da capa ao tracklist, "Doombound" parece ter tudo para gerar o clima épico que a banda se propõe a fazer, porém há falhas rudimentares que impedem que isso aconteça como deveria.
Em vários momentos tanto os vocais femininos quanto os masculinos soam pouco refinados, assim como as guitarras, já que no disco inteiro não há sequer um riff realmente memorável. A vasta quantidade de gêneros musicais incluidos no álbum acaba tendo também um efeito contrário, como por exemplo em "Kärmessurma", que soa fora de contexto em relação ao restante das músicas. Talvez uma escolha melhor de produtor pudesse evitar boa parte destas falhas.
Felizmente não há apenas momentos ruims em "Doombound", faixas como "Enchanted" conseguem fazer com que a banda soe da maneira que se que propõe um som maleável ,mas o album "Doombound" pode valer a pena para fãs da banda, pois está longe de ser uma das melhores pedidas para quem busca algo dentro do estilo.
